A Little Deity
I am taking part in the Little Deities illustration exhibition, for which participants were given a doll that was to be turned into a god. I decided to stick to the belief system I know best and channelled my Catholic grandmother, though interestingly it ended up a bit Mexican too. I haven't been to the exhibition yet and I am looking forward to seeing -- and learning much from -- the other participants' solutions! On until March 18.

Gotta love anything Mexicana! This looks great Sandra. Was it hard to paint on the doll surface? I have thougth about making religious things out of felt and calling the range "I felt Jesus"!!
you know i love your work Sandra but I also love the interesting & diverse places you get to display & challenge it, never a dull moment!!! :)
Hi Julianne,
I agree -- my love of Mexicana is endless. The doll surface was easy to paint on using acrylic -- the hard part was going around the curves of the legs and into the awkward bits around the neck. I popped the head off at one point -- shhhh.
Hello Jenni,
Thank you so much for that comment -- I hope I do get to challenge things sometimes! Lovely of you. :)
Thank you very much to both of you for your comments -- I was not feeling all that confident about this one to tell you the truth!!
Hope you are both enjoying the beautiful autumn weather. :)
Sandra! Look at it! It's amazing! The images on a baby doll is an incredible combination - religion, innocence, baptism, birth but then also makes you think of the baby as a religious icon too. And then the wonderful mexican religious macabre imagery on a little baby is another neural pathway fry! It's brilliant!
Hi Julianne,
How wonderful that you can see all of that in him....you have made me feel a little more confident about him and I thank you VERY MUCH for that. :)
Love it! Hope he got a mini pedestal to sit on for the exhibition.
Thank you Saskia -- I have left him in the lurch and haven't been to see him and his friends yet. I hope they are comfy and don't get up to too much ruckus at night when the gallery is shut...
Loving your latest post - as always, you clever lady!!!
